Optimizing Your Vendor’s SOC Report

Course Summary

In this course, students will gain an understanding of how to request and review SOC reports as part of their vendor risk management program. The course will provide an overview of the various SOC report brands and the intended use and purpose of each. The class will also explain the most common factors and considerations for reviewing the report from your vendor and how it can impact vendor acceptance.

This course is eligible for continuing professional education (CPE) hours: 2 hours

Professional Fees: $295 per student
Minimum Class Size: Five (5) students

Details

The Understanding Your Vendor’s SOC Report course is provided through a remote offering. While the curriculum is delivered remotely using presentation software, the course is designed for student interaction. Illustrations and examples are part of the courseware. 

This course is offered exclusively through Schellman’s LEAD instructors. Your instructor has years of relevant experience in the execution of all phases of SOC reporting, including the planning, execution, and reporting phases. Students will have opportunities to ask questions directly to an assessor and subject matter expert in the field of SOC reporting.

Additional Course Options

This course is part of the SOC Reporting Boot Camp. Students can opt to have this subject matter address as part of the comprehensive (20 CPE) boot camp course.

Course Materials

No prerequisites. Course materials will be presented by the instructor. CPE certificates to be issued within two (2) business days of event conclusion and satisfactory completion of student participation.

In this course, students will:

  • Identify the purpose and intended use of each SOC reporting brand and type of report
  • Understand who is authorized to use the report, and how to become an authorized user
  • Understand the components of the auditor’s opinion letter and what the opinion means to vendor risk management
  • Understand the components of the report (including complementary user entity controls) and what the opinion means to vendor risk management
  • Identify the criteria for choosing the correct report
  • Understand the process for requesting the SOC report(s)
  • Understanding bridge or gap letters
